  • What a ride.

I’m in St. Petersburg, Fla and I go home tomorrow.  I can’t wait.  I really miss Keri and the kids.  This leg of the tour was exhausting but it was so good to meet my friends in Detroit, Ft. Wayne, St. Louis, Louisiana and St. Petersburg, Florida.  One of my readers emailed to thank me for coming and wrote ‘it must be difficult to meet with all these people’.  Actually, that’s the good part.  I had a horrible time in Ft. Wayne until I got with my fabulous readers who always lift me up with their love.  The same held true in every other city I visited.  In Alexandria, Louisiana we dedicated the 89th Christmas Box angel monument.  Pam and Bob Schroeder, who sponsored the angel statue, were wonderful hosts.  I had some of the best food all year at the Bayou Bistro.  No wonder U.S. Presidents flock to the place.  The 90th angel was dedicated the next day in Michigan. We also just received orders for angels in Japan and France.  The miracle of the Christmas Box Angel continues. If you are unfamiliar with the angel monuments there is more about them on the homepage.  Just click on ‘Angels’.  Yesterday I received some sad news.  Darlene Jorgensen, the owner of Jorgensen’s Books in Roy, Utah passed away on Friday.  Darlene was one of the first book store owners who rallied to support an unknown author with a little self-published book called The Christmas Box.  Her store still holds the international sales record, selling an amazing 5,000 copies of The Christmas Box that first Christmas.  With her Beehive Hairdo and strong will, Darlene called countless independent bookstores around the nation and told them to promote my book–or else!  I don’t know what would have happened without this wonderful woman’s support, but I’m glad that I don’t know.  Like so many independent bookstores, Jorgensen’s Books shut down about five years ago. But I’ve never forgotten how supportive this wonderful woman was.  I’m honored to be asked to speak at her funeral. I send my condolences to her husband and family.

      Hello Mr. Evans,

This is Lisa Hein and I met you yesterday in St. Petersburg after you were finished speaking.

There are so many unique things that took place and I would like to share them with you. First, I was a volunteer at the Festival of Reading and before I came on Saturday, I looked up all the authors that were coming and read the bios of those I would be interested in seeing. Believe it or not, I wrote down your name and stopped.

On the way there, my friend had the newspaper and she was reading who wrote what and asked me who it was that I wanted to hear speak. Well, I had a senior moment and could not remember. After my shift she asked if we could come see you. I agreed and found you to be amazing. Your heart is so pure and what you give to the children is phenomenal. Thank you for caring.

After you told the story about if you don’t do something about what you want you will get rusty and the girl who got away, God spoke to my heart and said ‘proceed.’ And so I did. I am the one who came up to you and so boldly gave you a copy of THE BOOK “I’m Doing The Best I Can!” I do not want to get rusty because, you see, God gave me a present too. He gave me the situations I went through in order to help other parents that may experiencing difficult times with their children.

I have been speaking for a little over a year and I see the look on their faces when I am finished. One even said “God definitely had you come for me, as I have lost my hope and you restored it.” I am so grateful that my message is being heard.

When I returned home, I found the name of the person I wanted to meet, and guess who it was? YOU! I called my friend and we laughed. God does work in mysterious ways doesn’t He?

I would be so appreciative if you could take a moment and peruse/read my book. I know the message is being understood, but it sure would be awesome to have some one like you on my side. Being self-published is a lot of work and I am grateful for all the wonderful venues and opportunties I have experienced.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you…

      Best regards!
      Lisa Hein
